Hot Courts, Bright Glare: Prescription Eyewear for Glenview Pickleball

Pickleball season is peaking in Glenview. The Park District courts fill up by 7 a.m., the temperature spikes by noon, and patients keep walking in with the same two complaints. Their frames slide mid-rally. Their contacts dry out by the third game.

Why your frames slide

Pickleball moves your head differently than tennis. Faster at the net, slower in the backcourt, and your nose pads pay for it. If yours are stock plastic and your temple tips haven’t been touched in two years, they’ll let go. A 15-minute adjustment in our workshop usually fixes it. We re-curve the bridge and swap to silicone pads if the frame can take it. Free for patients.

Glare on outdoor courts

Glenview’s outdoor courts run hot and bright, with green paint that mirrors the sky back at you. Standard tinted lenses help, but they flatten depth perception, and that’s the thing you can least afford to lose when the ball’s at the net. Polarized lenses cut surface glare without washing out the picture.

For prescription players, that means a dedicated pair. Most people can’t swap glasses and contacts between sets. The Optical Kitchen is where this gets built. Contacts for high astigmatism

For players with strong astigmatism, glasses on court are tough. They slide and they fog. We fit toric contacts that hold their axis through fast head movement, which is what makes them work for pickleball specifically. If you’ve been told your prescription is “too complicated” for contacts, that was probably true 10 years ago. Specialty fits have moved a lot since.

Booking in late June

Patients ask if it’s too late to schedule an eye exam for the summer season. It isn’t. A comprehensive eye exam now leaves time to fit specialty contacts and build a polarized pair before league play wraps up in August.
